ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Microbiology, Vivekanandha College of Arts & Sciences for Women (Autonomous) was established in 1995 with a view to provide knowledge, skill and services in microbiology. Department presently runs four academic programmes B.Sc Microbiology, M.Sc Applied Microbiology, M.Phil Microbiology and Ph.D Microbiology. The Department is one of the pioneer Departments in colleges affiliated under Periyar University.
The alumni of the department occupy positions of great responsibilities in colleges, hospitals, R&D institutes, pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Department has excellent infrastructure for teaching and research. Department has produced 6 doctorates, More than 100 M.Phil Scholars and thousands of undergraduate and post graduate students.
The electronic class rooms are equipped with ceiling-mounted LCD projector, screen and audio system for the use of computer aided teaching.
Department is provided with separate sophisticated laboratories for UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D courses with well-established infrastructure facilities.
The Department is focused to maximize the usefulness of every academic activity of standardize the education. Research/job oriented advanced papers are introduced to strengthen the curriculum, designed by potential experts from academic and industrial fields.
