ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mathematics was started as one of the earliest Departments in Vivekanandha College of Arts and Sciences for women (Autonomous). B.Sc., and M.Sc., Mathematics programs were started in the year 2000 and 2002 respectively. Later, the Department was elevated into a research Department by offering M.Phil program in the year 2012.The Department has highly qualified faculty members actively engaged in teaching and research. The main objective of the Department is to advance the students’ knowledge in diverse areas of Mathematics and support current progress in science thereby providing a platform for them to celebrate success in every sphere of their lives. The programme provides the fundamental principles of mathematics integrated with open source softwares which enhance the various skills and employability of the students. The curriculum includes Hands on Trainings, inter disciplinary group projects and field works.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

B.Sc (Mathematics), 3 years; Full Time

Eligibility :

Candidates seeking admission to the first year B.Sc – Mathematics, shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by the Government of Tamilnadu with Mathematics ,Physics and Chemistryas subjects.

M.Sc (Mathematics), 2 years; Full Time

Eligibility :

A candidate who has passed B.Sc., Mathematics / B.Sc., Mathematics (Computer Applications) degree of this University or any other University accepted by the Syndicate equivalent there to, subject to such condition as may be prescribed therefore shall be permitted to appear and qualify for the Master of Science (M.Sc.,) Degree Examination in Mathematics of this University after a two academic years and the successful completion of all the courses prescribed.

M.Phil. (Mathematics); Full Time / Part Time

Eligibility :

A candidate who has passed M.Sc., Mathematics / M.Sc., Mathematics (Computer Applications) degree of this University or any other University accepted by the Syndicate equivalent there to, subject to such condition as may be prescribed therefore shall be permitted to appear and qualify for the Master of Philosophy(MPhil.,) Degree Examination in Mathematics

Facilities

Department of Mathematics has it’s own Library consisting of nearly 4500 books and journals.
The books and journals are used by research scholars, post graduate and under graduate students of our Department.
An air conditioned seminar hall with a seating capacity of 500 is available at the Department which can be used for any seminar, workshop, etc.
Class rooms with ICT facilities.
